Funny Farm

This ain't no bridge. It's termites holding hands!

Andy Farmer (Chevy Chase) moves with his wife (Madolyn Smith) to the country to write his "novel" and start a family. They have high hopes, but they are quickly shattered as everything seems to go wrong. They find their small town to be odd and have trouble fitting in.

Many people don't seem to like this film, but I can't help it. It has several funny lines, including my all time favorite (above). All I have to do is think about it long enough and I'll laugh, it never fails. This movie has numerous elements that range from subtle to pretty obvious. Being Mr. lamb fries turns out to be a position not to envy. The range of funny situations is the film's greatest asset, next to Chase of course.

There is nothing aside from the humor that marks this movie apart. It is a quaint and straightforward fish out of water story. While the Farmers are likeable, they are more memorable as being sympathetic. Though the townsfolk aren't nearly as odd as say the ones in Nothing but Trouble.

Chase is dead on, with his expressions never failing to get a smile. Whether it's meeting the mailman or listening to his wife on his typewriter, he hits the mark nearly every time. Smith doesn't do a bad job either.

Think of this movie as a bunch of funny sketches (like those in SNL) connected by a plot. Add in Chase and you've got a decent comedy.
