The Money Pit
Ahh, home crap home!
Walter Fielding (Tom Hanks) and Anna Crowley (Shelly Long) buy a mini mansion for a steal of a price. Unfortunately, things aren't what they appear and they find the house needs extensive renovating. So begins their uphill battle to restore their new house while maintaining their relationship and sanity.
While having plenty of room for jokes and slapstick, the main problem with The Money Pit is it's content to be mediocre. It seems the main objective is to fulfill the hour and a half requirement and run off with the dough. Meanwhile, they leave a not quite satisfying movie.
That's not to say it isn't a decent movie. Hanks handles his material well and even Long is acceptable. Godunov is the show stealer, here however, as his hopelessly shallow and self centered character gets the best lines.
There are a few good laughs here. More physical comedy could have been employed with the house falling apart, but it remains passable. The film's largest strength is found in the short but sharp quips. The script finds room in the relationship to throw in its fair share of wisecracks.
Overall, it's entertaining and even appealing movie at times. Though I can't help but think that this is more of an overdrawn sitcom than a feature. But I'd still recommend it as a funny rental that has some clever moments despite its faults.
